From 2006 to 2008 I worked on the series „High Society“. It traces a deep rooted human phenomenon and one of the oldest dreams of mankind: the archaic desire for immortality, eternal youth and beauty. Praised and celebrated in ancient myths, people still crave for a value, which we mortals must be denied by definition: An elixir of youth and never ending material and sexual power that will remain an illusion.
The desperate clinging to the desideratum always turns into its opposite and the failure is documented in its own bizarre results. The myth of the “rich and famous” transforms itself into a grotesque farce. Neither their surgically smoothed mimics nor the elaborate make-up or precious baubles can outwit the eye of the beholder – but they adamtly tear open the gap between desire and truth. The achievements of one's own divinity ends in the merciless deformation of the decaying body: it is the diamonds and haute-couture covered collapse. As only God-like creatures, they failed in the Olympus of vanities.
